Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo hails from the Piedmont region of Italy. It is a red wine grape that is famous in Barolo and Barbaresco wines.

Nebbiolo vines prefer calcareous soil. They take a longer time to ripen, so they are often planted on south- or southwestern-facing hills for more sunlight.

Wines made from Nebbiolo grapes are a light red color. While still young, they are highly tannic and have hints of tar and rose. Because of this, they are often blended with other grape varieties. As Nebbiolo wines age, however, the tannins balance out and flavors of violet, cherry, raspberry, truffles, and tobacco are revealed.
